Indeed a great effort from the Govt. of Kerala

The Kerala SSLC examinations were scheduled from March 10th, 2020 to March 26th. However, due to the corona pandemic, the government proactively decided to postpone the exam for 3 subjects, considering the safety of the students. The following are those three subjects and their original date of exam.

Subject Exam Date
Mathematics March 23, 2020
Physics March 24, 2020
Chemistry March 26, 2020

Then came the country-wide lockdown announced by prime minister Narendra Modi which started from March 25, 2020.

This has made the future of millions of students at stake as most of the exams including those conducted by CBSE were still not finished.

And the number of Covid-19 confirmed cases and deaths was increasing drastically in India.

There were even rumours that the exams will be canceled!

However, things were different in Kerala. The government lead by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan along with the administration and the people stood unanimous to fight against the global pandemic.

As a result, Kerala effectively flattened the second-wave of the Covid-19 curve.

But then started the return of Kerala expats from other states and countries, back to Kerala. Due to this, there was a steady increase in daily confirmed Covid-19 cases.

But the government shocked everyone by announcing the date of postponed exams from May 26th to 30th.

The rescheduled dates were:

Subject Exam Date
Mathematics 26 May 2020
Chemistry 27 May 2020
Physics 28 May 2020

This decision received wide criticism from the opposition as well as from some fraction of parents. Even though there were rumors that exams could be postponed again, but the government stood firm in their decision.

However, the exams were conducted smoothly under strict Covid-19 protocols!

Amid the increase in number of reported cases, the government organized centralized valuation and finished it by June 19.

And today they are announcing the result! We are sure that this would give a competitive edge for Kerala students in future entrance exams because, in most of the states, the board exams are yet to finish.

We adore the brave decision and planning of the government of Kerala.

Chapter-wise Weightage for Kerala SSLC Maths Exam

Many students ask us whether there is any chapter-wise weightage for Kerala SSLC Maths Exam.

Is there an official chapter-wise weightage?

Officially, the SCERT does not publish any such weightage or chapter-wise mark distribution. However, if we closely observe the pattern of previous year question paper, we could arrive at an unofficial chapter-wise weightage for SSLC Mathematics final exam.

We have tabulated the chapter-wise mark distribution of both final exam and model exam of the last 3 years, which is 2018, 2019, and 2020. We have not considered other years because there was a change in the syllabus.

Surprisingly most of the chapters had the same mark distribution in all the 6 exams. Only a few chapter’s marks varied, but that too in very small proportion.

SSLC Maths Question Pattern

Before going to the chapter-wise mark distribution, we must understand the question pattern of Kerala SSLC Maths examination, to have a clear picture.

The SSLC Final Maths theory (TE) exam is for 80 Marks. However, the question paper comprises of 29 questions which total for 110 marks! This is because students have choices out of 29 questions. This table shows how the exact pattern of the question paper.

Total Questions Max questions that can be attempted Max marks that can be scored
2 marks, 4 Qns = 8 marks 3 6
3 marks, 7 Qns = 21 marks 5 15
4 marks, 10 Qns = 40 marks 7 28
5 marks, 7 Qns = 35 marks 5 25
6 marks, 1 Qn = 6 marks 1 6
110 marks, 29 Qns 21 80
